How can I migrate my repositories to another account so I don't lose access to them?

Hello, everyone!

Happy new year to you all! I hope 2025 is a year full of accomplishments and happiness.

I'd like to start off by giving in a bit of context: Around 2023, I had created this GitHub account for school purposes, since I'm currently attending a professional programming course directly linked to a famous college in my country, and I had done my registering to this account with an email which it's domain belongs to the college network.
Eventually, when I finish my course, I believe I will lose access to this email, and, unfortunately, lose access to all my repositories. I'd like to know if there is a way for one to migrate his repositories to another account, so it prevents the loss of access to said repositories.

Any tips regarding that would be very appreciated.

Hi @guialves311 ,

In GitHub you can transfer a repository owned by your personal account to another account by following these steps (note that you have to repeat the steps for any repository you want to transfer):

1. Navigate to the main page of the repo.
2. Under your repo name, click "Settings".
3. Scroll down to the bottom, in the "Danger Zone" section, click "Transfer".
4. Under "New owner", choose your other account.
5. Read the warnings about potential loss of features depending on the new owner's GitHub subscription.
6. Type "REPOSITORY NAME" to confirm, type the name of the repository you'd like to transfer, then click "I understand, transfer this repository".
