It would be really great if we could list one of the repository roles, such as
@maintainers, as an owner of a file or blob in the CODEOWNERS file.This would make it simple to think of the Maintainers role as an elevated individual contributor, requiring them to approve changes to application configuration, github actions, etc while also giving them the ability to bypass failing checks and such through Rulesets. This is possible now, but it would require that I create a separate Team for each repository's SMEs and keep those updated as well as the maintainers group of the repository. Having this feature would essentially provide one point of maintenance, where the maintainers would become the defacto code owners of the repository.
GitLab implemented this a while back, I would love to see the same feature implemented here.
