Unable to Reapply for GitHub Student Pack After Losing Old Account

Hello,
I am facing an issue with the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Previously, I used my student email 23646131.khang@student.iuh.edu.vn to register for the academic discount on my old GitHub account (khangdz013). Unfortunately, I lost access to that GitHub account.
Now, I have created a new GitHub account and tried to apply again using my student email. However, I received the following error:
"Discount request errors: 23646131.khang@student.iuh.edu.vn has already been used to obtain an academic discount on GitHub account(s) khangdz013."

Since I no longer have access to the old account, I cannot use my student email for the new one. Could you please help me transfer or reset the student discount so I can use it with my new GitHub account?

Hi there — thanks for explaining the situation clearly.

Unfortunately, the GitHub Student Developer Pack cannot be transferred automatically between accounts. A student email address can only be associated with one GitHub account at a time for academic benefits. That’s why you’re seeing the error indicating it’s already been used on khangdz013.

Because you’ve lost access to the original account, the only way to resolve this is through GitHub Support, not the Community forum.

What you should do next

Please open a support ticket here:

When submitting the ticket, include:

Your old GitHub username (khangdz013)

Your new GitHub username

The student email address

A brief explanation that you no longer have access to the old account

GitHub Support can verify ownership and, if appropriate, remove the academic discount from the old account so you can reapply on your new one.

Important notes

Community moderators can’t reset or move Student Pack eligibility.

Creating multiple accounts to reuse the same student email without support intervention is not allowed.

Once Support clears the old association, you’ll need to reapply for the Student Developer Pack on your new account.
